Let me know if you can't find one, and I'll see if I can't dig up a decent one for you.ģ) Request a Ubuntu CD. It can be done though, and there are numerous guides on Google. This is a slightly more difficult option, and I myself have only had luck once or twice with it. Just throw the iso on a flash drive and bring it over to their house or whatever.Ģ) Create a bootable USB drive. If you can't get it with your computers, have a friend do it for you. Nero works well for burning images, and Windows 7 actually has a built in iso burner. If not, try using either a different DVD, or a different burning program. I don't know how you'd go about running the ISO by hooking up another computer, so I can't help you with that.ġ) Just try and burn the image using another computer. How would I go about this? Would I format the R705 first and then use an ethernet cable to boot from my good laptop? I'm using my other laptop to try this, which is currently running Windows 7.Īssuming I'm not able to create a disc, I was told that I could hook the two computers together and do it that way. Is this correct? I've downloaded the ubuntu iso but every time I try and image it on a CD I get error messages about halfway through. I was told the easiest way to do this, keeping in mind that we want to completely get rid of the ARCHIE/Deep Freeze crap, would be to format the C drive and then boot using an ubuntu disc.

My plan was/is to completely wipe Windows 7 off and install Ubuntu. Honestly, I don't care if the thing is stolen it was sold to me as NOT hot, so that's what I'm going with. It resets everything every time I reboot and also keeps opening these Best Buy screens (obviously meant for display models). I don't know if it was stolen or not, but it has this damned ARCHIE/Deep Freeze software on it. So, I've got a Toshiba Portege R705 that was purchased off of craigslist.
